Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is ArmorCoat like a regular clear coat?
A: Yes and No. Over 3 years of developmental work and testing went into the creation of ArmorCoat. Unlike traditional automotive clear coat materials, ArmorCoat is formulated from extremely flexible polymers that will resist chipping 4 times better than the factory finish on your car or truck.
Q: How thick is ArmorCoat?
A: 3 to 4 times thicker than the final clear coat on your car or truck. ArmorCoat is applied at approximately 8 dry mils film thickness. Most OEM clears are 2 to 2.5 mils dry. (mil = 1/1000 inch}
Q: Can you see ArmorCoat on a vehicle?
A: Normally not. Under certain lighting conditions, you may be able to detect the edge where the material was sprayed up against a tape line crossing a hood or body panel. Because ArmorCoat is sprayed and not cut from film, there will be no hard edges where the job ends. When tape lines are removed or the material is sprayed to the edge of a hood lets say, the liquid spray flows and sort of rolls over itself creating a more subdued edge than a paint protection film. The edge will also resist dirt pick-up which can happen with dry films because of the adhesive under the films edge. With proper installation, ArmorCoat will be optically clear and appears no different than the remainder of your vehicle.
Q: Can ArmorCoat be removed?
A: No, ArmorCoat is a permanent installation and may be treated the same as your vehicles original finish.
Q: Is ArmorCoat a single coat application?
A: 3 to 4 coats go on to create the ArmorCoat finish.
Q: What happens if I have an accident? Will my insurance company pay the cost of reapplying ArmorCoat?
A: Yes, ArmorCoat is like any other automotive accessory. Contact your insurance company for information.
Q: Is this a textured gravelguard?
A: No, ArmorCoat is glossy, clear and smooth just like the OEM clear finish on your car.
Q: Can we spray ArmorCoat outdoors?
A: We don't recommend it.
Q: Does ArmorCoat come in colors?
A: Not yet.
Q: I never heard of your company before, Why hasn't PPG or Dupont come out with something like this?
A: We're not sure.
Q: Can you put ArmorCoat on an entire vehicle?
A: Absolutely! One of the reasons this product was developed is that traditional paint protection films cannot be applied to all areas of a vehicle. Especially in the custom market where Hot Rods and older vehicles generally have steeper curves, corners and body lines. ArmorCoat eliminates the difficulty of stretching film over impossible contours.
Q: Can anyone apply ArmorCoat?
A: No, The product must be installed by a professional auto body painter.
Q: Where can I get ArmorCoat installed on my vehicle?
A: Any quality, professional body shop can install the ArmorCoat finish. Speak to your local body shop. Show them our product information. As authorized installers and dealers are established, a list will be posted on our web site.
Q: I'm purchasing a new car soon, Can I get ArmorCoat installed from the dealer prior to taking delivery?
A: Very soon you will be able to order ArmorCoat through your new truck or car dealer.
Q: How much will ArmorCoat cost me compared to a paint protection film installation?
A: The cost will be similar but it is the advantages over film that makes ArmorCoat the right choice.
Q: What makes ArmorCoat better than paint protection film?
A: ArmorCoat has much greater versatility compared to paint protection films. When a new vehicle model hits the market there are usually no patterns for pre-cut film at first. ArmorCoat requires only a spray gun. There are also many more auto body shops capable of installing ArmorCoat than there are film installers.
